They are bed heads. The brackets had ‘L’ angle metal bolted to a connector piece. Wire lattice strung between them to support the mattress. From the 1940 or 50’s. I have a bench made from a double version. The head board was oak with a brown horrible spray varnish to uniform the colour

Def mahogany and headboards. Great score. I have a dunkin fife reproduction table in my shed that is bookmatched mahogany. I was offer $5k USD for just the top. Each leaf measures 40"x42"x 3/4". I want it for making side tables because the bases are awesome, but I don't have the guts to cut up the tops yet. Maybe you can inspire me to do something.

i can see the headboard thing but if you take the brackets and face them towards each other it almost looks like a crib with the lower rails missing.

I used to have a bed that had those cast brackets on. A rail had a matching cast on the end and dropped in to the brackets on the bits you've got. There was then a sort of chain mail thing stratched between them that the mattress sat on. Might be worth going back and asking if theyve got the rest of it

Yeah definately bed ends. More likely Sapele rather than Mahogany though.

Headboards we had the same type of thing anyway who is going to make cast fittings now of course they ain’t repro.

Definitely bed hardware. Tap it for hollow. Often 1/4" veneer on oak frame. Decades pre MDF!

Cabinetmaker for 30 years here. Yes you're right they are headboards and they're made of Sapele. An African mahogany. This figure is called Fiddleback. It's a bugger to work but looks lovely. 😊

🎉yes headboards from the days when you had a steel angle frame with wire mesh in middle held on with springs and mattress on top, the steel frame was so good our dads use to made car trailers from them.

Headboards for a bed. Looks like mahogany. Depending upon age, you could get a pretty penny for them if you dont sand them down.

this is what we SHOULD to be doing to be green; I'm sure I'd find if we were ever to chat that we're on much the same page. Get yourself a Trailer sometime if you can, my little 4x3 is old and rusty and I was given it for nowt but it's a fabulous additional tool; carrying everything from garden waste to sofa's to engines! Ideally one with an openable rear AND front board (like mine)

Solid wood is always good. Doesnt look like mahogany to me but its tricky to tell sometimes, i could be wrong. Any ideas what youre going to do with them?
